Ode to Alex

Fine Grains founder Alexander Horne, aka Uraki Riddim, passed away on December 20th, 2025, following a six-year battle with cancer. Anyone who met Alex will remember his gift for connecting people. Driven by a genuine curiosity about people and culture, he spent his free time joining the dots between musicians, designers and creative communities. Sincerity and passion were expressed in everything he did – from the music he released on Fine Grains, the events he curated, the football teams he organised and his monthly selections on Echobox. He held a high bar for music, design and art, never settling for the obvious or chasing trends and always focusing on the finer details. Beyond his creative pursuits, it was his ambition, humour, honesty and kindness that defined him. His kindness was most beautifully expressed in the love and devotion he showed as a husband, father, son, brother and loyal friend. To celebrate Alex’s life and passion for discovering and sharing new music, Echobox is hosting a 24-hour stream of back-to-back Fine Grains Radio shows.
